Driving in Adverse Weather

Many of the driving techniques we use everyday whilst driving off road are just as effective in a road going car during poor whether conditionas as they are in a 4x4 whilst out mud plugging!

Preparing the vehicle before driving off road involves the sort of checks all motorists should go through before undertaking a journey in poor weather. Sounds basic but planning your route, checking the tyre pressures, fluid levels, lights and so on, not to mention carrying a mobile phone, first aid kit and warm clothing in case of emergency are all things we do before venturing off the tarmac.

Driving off road safely and without loss of traction involves the correct use of the throttle, correct gear selection, correct use of the brakes and correct steering. Driving techniques such as selecting a higher gear when traction is lost are as relevent in snowy conditions on the road when traction is difficult as they are off road on a muddy hill climb!

We can't show you how to handle a high speed skid ( we don't have skid pan or we would!) but we can show you how to prepare your vehicle and yourself for a journey in adverse weather and we can teach you some new and different driving techniques which might just keep you going when others have come to a halt.
